|
|
I saw that Dorka provided a link to CSI Files’ interview with Carmine, on the Carmine Online page, but no one has brought the information to the forum. I see that a small debate has sparked in the comments tied to the story, but I’m interested in what everyone else thinks.
What I pretty much said was that I commend Carmine for having taken part of the interview. It’s very nice that he took the time to sit and answer questions that we, fans of CSI: NY, are interested in. He fielded questions on several topics pertaining to his music and the show. I thought he did a great job.
The one thing that’s raised the ire of a lot of the D/L fans is the interviewer pressing Carmine for his truer feelings of the relationship. I read posts from CSI Files and know that there are a many posters there who don’t particularly care for D/L. To some people, it came off as a bit of an attack on Carmine. They felt as though he was being hounded with D/L questions, by someone who has been very vocal about her own displeasure of the romance.
Many people didn’t care for Carmine’s answers regarding D/L and I find the backlash of his answers interesting. I see that there’s a petition going and a letter writing campaign, all in support of D/L. I think it’s impressive that at my last glance, the petition had over 750 signatures.
After seeing it, I began to question it all. I’m not saying this to stop people from signing the petition or sending letters. I’m wondering if it’s a bit too presumptuous. I guess you want to get the writers to NOT ignore that one particular storyline, but isn’t it a bit early to protest? Everyone is only going by what the actor is saying what he thinks may happen. He may contribute beyond his performance, but CBS is not going to let them just drop a main storyline that keeps people talking. They are not going to unceremoniously get rid of one of the main reasons that people tune in.
Controversy + ratings + advertising = $$$ for CBS
I have always made my feelings known about D/L, but by the time the finale came around, I’ve pretty much resolved my issue. Bottom line is that it’s a very divisive storyline—either you like it or you don’t. People are more opinionated these days. You complain and take either side, but the writers don’t care, as long as you watch.
This turned into more of a speech than a request for feedback on the issues raised, or any other aspect of the interview that Carmine was so gracious to take part of.
Here's a link to the interview, if you didn't see it:

Leta, thank you for starting this thread! I'm grateful Carmine granted an interview, since he doesn't usually give too many.
A lot of people have commented, one way or the other, on the interview. I've debated this ad nauseum at my other board. I'm a DL fan, but I do see potential for their not being together. As I've said repeatedly, the kiss of death for any on-screen relationship is consummation. That's the PG-13 word for you young-uns. Go use a dictionary.
ETA: Inadvertent spoiler posting removed. SORRY LETA!!!!
A cyber-friend of mine questioned if people were going to be angry if anything that was proposed in the interview didn't come to pass. This was my response:

You know, I don't honestly know how anyone could entertain an angry or even irritable thought at an actor or other entertainer for saying what might happen, or for something out of their control. Were people angry with Jimmy Kimmel when he had to cancel some shows for his emergency appendectomy? He said he was going to be there; people had tickets to be in the audience. Were they pissed off? It makes no sense to me that someone would get angry or blame Carmine, or even Zuiker, for throwing tidbits out there. We want what they give us. Actors are not the ones in control. Even TPTB don't know what's going to definitely happen until the last minute, and even if they do know what's going to happen it's still their prerogative to change their minds and go in a completely different direction.
Honestly, I'm wondering how many "final" scenes The Sopranos PTB filmed, to throw off not only the cast but also crew and any other potential leaks. I believe the same thing happened with Friends. In that situation, though, they closed the set. Granted we're not dealing with finales, but the premise is probably the same. CSI shows are the backbone of CBS right now, and no one wants them jeopardized in any way, shape or form.
Besides, if info is getting leaked, it wouldn't surprise me if TPTB pulled a Miami and revealed specific details to different individuals to determine exactly who is spilling the beans. |
I signed the petition, because I do want TPTB to comprehend just how loyal and far-reaching the DL fan-base is. However, I DO NOT want the forensics or crime scenes to be overshadowed by relationship drama. It's CSI first and foremost ... that's why I tune in. I can just as easily turn over to some freakin' Lifetime movie if I wanted romance only! _________________

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
I screwed around and read some spoilers about Season 4. I humbly take back some of what I said in my original post. Well, not really... But, kinda... Anyway, still a good read of any interview. My favorite sentence of it all was:
But I don't mind being the utility guy--you can use me for what you need to use me for. -- Carmine
Not much to say after that one.

S&S, I've been worried about you! How's life treating you?
Of course you're not online at work! I'd never think such a thing. Enjoy the interview when you have time. It'll pick up your spirits. It's good to see you checking in. I'm sending you hugs through my Internet connection, same as I did for Leta. _________________

Thank you PrettyEyes, Hugs greatfully recieved and I send some to you too.
I'm good, well better than good, I think I'm in love... I have met well kinda met a fantastic man who loves me, I say kinda because I met him online and we haven't met in person yet but he sounds really nice over the phone.
My sister once again is causing me some stress this time because she is getting divorced, her husband and I use that term loosely is accusing her of cheating on him. my nephew is still suffering from problems with his legs.
I have been writing too which is always good, I have written quite a bit of poetry over the past couple of months. anyway I think that about catches you up on things. hope you are well. _________________ If the world is my oyster where is the pearl?

Im here too!! hehe
Just got back from Turkey and it was hot!!!! too hot (Got heatstroke on the first day! oops!)
I read the interview and i think it made interesting reading. As most of you know, im not a D/L fan, i dont know if its because i love police and forensic shows and thats why i hate it so much, as it seems to be more about 'those 2' and nothing else in season 3. Ok, so i do like Peyton and Mac, but thats because it IS in the background and you see it every now and again.
I also have to confess that i have missed quite a lot of CSI:NY this season 1) cos im out drinking too much! 2) cos it is all about D/L
There was a time where i would actually look forward to Saturdays as it was on, but now i have to say that its slowly coming to an end. Its not Carmine or Anna's fault whatsoever and i have nothing against Anna.
I would like to know why the writers have changed the whole programme from what it was at the beginning to what it is now?!!
Im actually reading a lot more now and guess what books they are?? Yes forensic/murders etc.
The DVD is out now in England i will catch up on a few epis that i have missed, but i just hope that season 4 is better!
And whats with this petition??? What do people want to get from it??
I hope that didnt sound horrible, sorry if it did!
Big hugs to you all, ive missed u! Havent been on for god knows how long!
S&S Got a new guy, good for you! Has he got any friends?!! lol Im really pleased for you!
