So, today is a lazy Sunday and since I haven’t anything else to do, I decided I’d pop in my CSI: NY Season One DVD’s and reacquaint myself with the characters that I know and love. Back when Mac was still a grieving widower, Stella was strong willed, Sheldon was still an ME, Flack had long hair and Aiden Burn was alive…. Ahh… the memories.

Looking at the current season, I have come to long for what bought me to liking the show in the first place. I miss when the show was dark and had that bluish tint. I miss when not every other case involved wealthy victims. I miss when men were the victims more. I miss long haired Flack. I miss intense Mac Taylor. I miss the chemistry between Danny Messer and Aiden Burn. This is not to say that I don’t love the show anymore. I just miss what bought me to the table in the first place.

Here we are, in the third season, and while I still love the show, I think the writers are letting me down now. They have this great cast, but man… They are sitting in neutral these days. For a show that is supposed to be character driven, they haven’t been paying attention to the histories and backstories of each character. I think it began at the beginning of last season and just continues now.

First, they botched establishing Sheldon Hawkes as an ME who left the morgue for the field. Sure, we got the first few(2) episodes of season two, but before we could get into the adjustment of him, they introduce Lindsay Monroe. The writers REALLY screwed up with her character, from day one. All we knew was that she was from Montana, her Dad taught her to make knots from leather and... What else? Laughing

I love the job they’ve done with the character Danny Messer, but I owe that more to Carmine’s acting skills. The character they began with, in season one, is gone and has been replaced by this new Danny. I'm not even sure where he came from. Maybe they'll explain it away as him suffering a breakdown after Louie got hurt. Please don't get me wrong, I know that Carmine is phenominal and I am as big a fan of his as everyone here. The writers have just completely forgotten what they started with.

When I first started watching the show, my impression of Danny Messer was a rouge cop, a bit of a daredevil, emotional, hot headed, mildly sexist, a man‘s man, a ladies man even… He would often go by his guts feelings and let the evidence support it. Maybe I was wrong to think that, but watching these DVD’s, I don’t think so.

Danny Messer today is a shadow of the character they started writing years ago. He’s not pissed Mac off yet. He’s still a daredevil, but only emotional when his family is involved apparently. Gone is the Danny who when told to stop pretending he hadn’t been to a massage parlor/brothel before, replied, ”Are you kidding me? I had girlfriends for that.” Where, oh where is that Danny Messer?

Now, I’m forced to watch Danny Messer get stood up on dates?? Question I am so looking forward to Danny Messer, who can‘t focus on his work so he has to take a trip to Montana to hold someone‘s hand… Rolling Eyes Danny Messer getting hung up over a woman who draws him in and then dismisses him. It reminds me of when you’re a kid and you have that one friend who got all the boys. She’d taunt a guy into chasing her. As soon as she’s caught, she’d fights him off. That’s Danny and Lindsay and I can’t believe that I’m watching it sometimes.

Don’t get me wrong… If the writers had been doing a better job with their job, I would have liked to have liked their romance better. The writers just dropped the ball here and as a die-hard fan, it tastes like burnt coffee. Carmine is a damn good actor, we all know this. I’m not familiar with work Anna Belknap did before the show, but from the work these writers are giving her, I’m just not feeling her character. I would love to be enthusiastic about DL, but I don't feel it.

It’s not the actors faults… just my commentary on CSI: NY’s writing staff. If you disagree and think I missed something, don’t hesitate to let me know. I want to like the show 100% again, but the writers are giving me a headache. Watching these old episodes isn’t helping… Crying or Very sad

I 100% agree Leta. I don't think anyone could've said it better themselves. Maybe you should give the writers a heads up and tell them what needs to be done. LOL.

I agree with you to Leta Very Happy

I haven't seen much of the the 3rd season, but I'm sick of the Danny/Lindsay stuff. Sorry to everyone who ships them, but it's how I feel Razz

I feel like the writers try to make CSI NY in a soap opera and forget that CSI NY is a forensic/crime show all at suddon. Confused

I also would love that the writers write another good Danny/Louie story and we never know whatever happend to Louie. So, they should bring Louie back again and make it one hell of an episode again.

but I totally agree with you and dorka that it couldn't be better said

That’s the one problem that I’m having though. You have some people comparing Danny/Aiden to Danny/Lindsay and that’s just not right. Aiden treated Danny like a brother and just came right out and said that she’s ‘out of his league’. I respected that as such and was fine with them not being romantically linked. They had great chemistry and that’s missed. Not sure if you remember “Hush”, the episode where they were investigating the bondage murder. That episode is testament to great chemistry between characters. There wasn’t a need for romance there. Aiden even made suggestive comments to Danny, something like working on the top (of a rubber suit) because she loves being on top. Still, no need for romance between them…

The lack of such scenes between Danny and Lindsay make me not care about their ‘thing’. I’m not sure if they’re trying too hard or what. You mean to tell me that if someone embarrasses me on my first day of a new job and we happen to both be in the break room later that day as I prepare my coffee and he’s standing in my way, so we have an awkward exchange, that we should then fall in love? Confused I’m not buying it, no matter how many fried spiders she eats… Laughing

The only way I can dismiss it is if she’s not aggressive and sometimes opposites attract, but there hasn’t been enough on-screen examples of her desire to be with Danny, outside of that hug. You mean to tell me that her ‘I like you, but I can’t handle you’ speech warrants a cross country trip just to give her a shoulder to lean on? I’m snatching myself bald over this kind of cut & paste writing. Shocked

The only consolation is that Carmine does a bang up job with this mess. He makes you hurt for Danny, standing out in that hall, telling Lindsay that he’ll be there. He perfectly conveyed worry for Lindsay when she traded places with that one Holly and went face to face with that diamond guy. He makes you feel sorry for Danny, sitting in that restaurant… alone. That’s why I love, love, love Carmine Giovinazzo. He’s a damn fine actor and deserving of an Emmy Nomination. Did you like how I pulled that together? Wink

You know I have... I've sent letters and filled out that feedback box on CBS.com. I've been doing my work. I meant to add that everyone should go let CBS know what I meant, but my boss was approaching. Surprised So, I forgot to add that.

But yeah!! Go write CBS and get OUR MAN an Emmy Nomination. He deserves it so much. It's almost criminal that he's been overlooked.

Now, I'm done sounding like a geek. Smile I think I've watched every episode of CSI: NY at least three times... I feel like a Trekkie or something. Razz

well done on doing your work Wink

Yeah, get our talented man an Emmy nomination and everyone could help with trying to get one.

You know what the writers should also bring back of Danny? him being the kind of bad boy.

I never liked season 1 much because it was too dark and too blueish.
The cast didn`t gelled for me like they do now, mainly because I thought there was too much of the same personalities around.

Sure I liked Danny but there were times that I thought it was a bit too much
Now over the course of the last 2 seasons he has started to grow and mature.
I believe he still has that bad boy side but he also has realised that he needed to grow up in order to make something of his life.
PLus I also think that the way he grows as person is realistic.

As for the whole Danny/Lindsay thing,it doesn`t bother me much.

What I do hope is that they delf more into backgrounds, yes even in that off Danny cause I don`t think we have seen all of that

yeah that's like I meant it just you can explain that better in english... I meant that I really loved how aiden & danny treated each other they were both out of a same family situation I think and if I didn't know that better I would maybe have thought that they were realted Smile

but I also think that what's going on between danny & lindsay isn't that bad also... also because in one episode I don't know which it was exactly... it was that one (in season 1) where these dead doves killed that bride and mac said to danny "this can happen to you too" or something like that and danny reacted like "love??? are you kidding me?" and the supposed to be love story between danny & lindsay is the best opposite to that so it's not that bad....

but I always thought until aiden died that she'll get back to CSI a little bit later..... that would be the best situation to me

I hope you can understnad me Wink

OK lets start from the beginning !!

CSI:Las Vegas is too dark and too serious! they revolve around science only...and maybe throw here and there some personal problems...theres too much science and no action no reality.....they are like freaking robots with no emotion.....if you get me...

CSI:Miami is opposite....couse its too bright/orange and revolves with more action then science....Horatio is almost never in the lab only on the streets chasing the bad guys....i think in the 1season he was in the lab but that was just freaky couse the scientist role doesn't suit him....

And then CSI:NY came and I don't quite remember when i started watching it but it was a habit couse i watched the previous 2 so why not watch the 3 one...season1 was blue-ish and again too dark...but it had EVERYTHING!!
The right amount of science, the right amount of action, emotion and most important it had and has humor in it....and that is something the first 2 csi lack.....

About Carmine's character.....well i didn't notice him that much until the ep "On the Job" where he did amazing work...and then my opssesion began...
All that "PLayer" acting was HOT and it suited him but only in season1....when season 2 began...EVERYTHING changed....from the set that became just perfect....from Mac's character who was too depressive in s1....and i thank god that they cut Flack's hair couse he had a litlle bit of Elvis vibe going there....and it makes him hotter with short hair....which i cant say for Danny long hair suits him better.....i think in s1 they made a very good job about saying everything possible about main characters past life and in season2 they made them move on.....

About Danny going all FLUFFY....well i expected that....couse it a cliche...every bad boy needs to setle down...u know fall for the "girl next door"......

About Anna Belknap playing Lindsay i think it suits her....i watched her in Medical Investigation and she did a very good job there too.....

One thing that soooo bothered me when Anna was pregnant they didnt do anything to hide it in the ep.....you could see her belly and they cut the flirtation between Danny and Lindsay and that was just stupid...u have flirt flirt -----stop------goes for her in Montana.....(which was sweet by the way)....and he stoped calling her Montana.....C'mon gimme a break u can't do that......

BUt that's just me......Very Happy

Peace and LOVE!! Twisted Evil
