I had resisted replying to this thread as I didn’t want to seem like a super fangirl who owns damn near every movie Carmine was in… but alas, I have this movie in my Carmine Collection too. Very Happy

This was one of those movies that I’ve seen one hundred times before, but with a different title each time. Star athlete gets persuaded to throw a game by local thug, thinking it’s a one shot deal. Star athlete is reluctantly convinced to throw future games. Star athlete takes money for his efforts, but falls into self hatred for having such money. His group of friends are all unaware of the goings on… Washed up Star athlete from years before, who did the same thing and never succeeded beyond High school level, has warnings for current Star Athlete, which go unheeded. Blah, blah, blah… Definitely one to have, if you’re a fan of Carmine or Freddy Rodriguez and that’s about it.

One complaint about the casting… Did they NOT like blondes when they put the cast together? Question It was filled with brunettes and the one blonde they did cast was a prostitute. Surprised Then there was the stereotypical Native American son of a Casino owner… Then there was the stereotypical Mafia depiction… I know, it was set and filmed in Nevada, but sheesh!

I found myself troubled by one scene Carmine had with Freddy where I think they went off the script because it was weak and couldn’t have been written by anyone. It’s the scene where Carmine’s character, (any guesses at his name??) You got it! Frankie Rolling Eyes , had just found out about the money. They were supposed to be arguing, but it was just a train wreck.

I’ll just say that personally, I expected a little more out of the cast and was left a bit dissatisfied. Star athlete gets a slap on the hand, leaves town and all of the memories of his senior year behind.

With that, I must be a super fangirl. Laughing

I thought the movie wasn't that good at all Confused One football player thinking he's the next godfather and helps some casino boss making money and him getting money by losing some games.

I thought the fight when Frankie confronted Sean about the money was pretty weak too. If it was done with a bit of tense and better lines then it would have been a good fight probably.

Aww... I wouldn't say it wasn't good... I think they had a lot of things to work with, but just went the wrong way. It tried to cover too many bases and kind of spread itself thin. It was full of unnecessary characters, subplots and things that took me out of the story.

I won't say it was outright bad, but I'll just say that after seeing Carmine in this, I preferred him in Big Shot: Confessions of a Campus Bookie. Kind of the same movie, but a bit better. It was able to balance drama, comedy and serious issues a lot better than this movie.
